Nº4 The New Standard

A masterpiece in longevity and comfort, our Nº4 bed model was created following demand from some of the finest hotels in the world.

Consists of mattress, topper and base

Extraordinary as standard

Each Nº4 bed is handcrafted to your specifications in our Bedworks in Wales. There’s no such thing as a basic model at Savoir. We're setting new standards for luxury sleep.

Mattress

The Nº4 mattress is filled with superior quality wool, a hair pad and needled cotton, layered above and below tall nested pocket springs. The result is perfect support, and a rejuvenating night’s sleep. Every night will feel like a night at the Savoy.

Soft wool

After the curled hair, we add a layer of needled cotton to the mattress, and add a final layer of soft, heat regulating and moisture wicking wool. This combination of materials provides a first class sleeping experience.

The proudest moment is when you sign the label on the bed you have made.

Curled Hair

The springs within the Nº4 mattress are carefully sandwiched between two luxurious pads of curled hair. This ensures every contour of your body is cushioned and supported whilst you sleep.

Cotton tufts

The mattress filling is then encased in Trellis ticking and hand tufted to ensure the soft, springy, natural filling remains even throughout the lifetime of your bed.

CW Topper

This luxurious mattress topper is specifically designed so you wake up feeling relaxed and renewed. Providing an added layer of indulgence to your bed, it is comprised of a core of soft loose cotton wrapped in swathes of thick wool.

Soft wool

The upper most comfort layer of this topper is wool, prized for being wonderfully soft, naturally moisture wicking and temperature regulating. This ensures you wake up feeling refreshed.

Trellis ticking

The generous filling of the Nº4 mattress topper is wrapped, like all Savoir toppers, in Trellis ticking, designed by Lady D’Oyly Carte in 1905 and used by Savoir ever since.

Hand tufting

To ensure your topper stays plump and even, it is carefully hand-tufted and knotted. As you sink into the Nº4's soft filling, your feet will be slightly elevated for better circulation, and a deeper, more restorative sleep.

Box spring

The box spring provides the perfect foundation for your Nº4 bed, supporting your weight and ensuring the mattress has give and independent movement. A bed of both luxury and longevity.

Woodwork

Our craftspeople put their carpentry skills to work, handmaking a strong, durable wooden frame from Grade 1 pine. We carefully take the time to screw and glue the Nº4 bed frame, never using staples alone like most manufacturers.

Trellis ticking

Finally, the box spring of the Nº4 bed is covered in the trademark Trellis ticking, just as our beds have been for over 100 years.

Webbing springs

Diamond-threaded, hand-stitched hessian webbing is used to interlink the hourglass springs, whilst allowing independent movement. This ensures the base of the Nº4 will move with you while you sleep.

Bed Buying Guide

Good sleep starts with the right bed, but there are several factors to consider when investing in a new one. We’re here to help navigate you through the maze, so you can uncover a lifetime of quality sleep.

The correct level of support is essential for maintaining your spine in its natural position. To achieve this, you must sink into the bed comfortably, or your spine will curve, which may result in aches and stiffness in the morning. For side sleepers, your hips and shoulders need to sink in to ensure you get support around the waist level. If you lie on your back, your body must sink in sufficiently to ensure your lower back is well supported.

To achieve the best personalised support, we offer split-tension mattresses custom-made to your preferences, so you and your partner can have different levels of support in the same bed.

The right base supports both the mattress and the person sleeping on it. It needs to have a level of firmness to it. However, a base that is too firm will compromise the feel of even the softest mattress. A box spring base gives the mattress the best possible support, adding to the comfort of your bed and extending its life.

At Savoir, our box springs vary according to the hours of work and materials involved. The large independent hourglass springs and rolled edges take your weight, enabling the mattress to do its job of taking your shape and giving the quality of support required whilst you sleep.

When choosing the right bed, size is incredibly important. As a basic rule of comfort, you want to opt for the biggest bed your bedroom can fit. This will allow you to not only sleep more comfortably but also to approach designing the bed more creatively.

For two people, we recommend a minimum of a Super King, which is equivalent to a King in the US. This gives each person 90cm (or 38" for a US King) of sleeping space, which is the same as a single bed. The more room you have, the more comfortable and less disturbed you will be by your partner’s movements.

For large beds, we offer zip-and-link mattresses and bases to make them easier to handle and turn and to assist with access up staircases.

When it comes to choosing the fillings inside your bed, natural is best. Horsetail, wool, and cotton all breathe exceptionally well. They provide incredible insulation properties and are critical for temperature regulation, which is important all year round.

Maintaining the body’s temperature helps improve the REM stage of sleep, which is essential for restorative rest. Natural materials tend to be found in the most expensive mattresses, toppers, and bases, but also offer greater longevity. Foams and latex are less expensive but don’t breathe, so they can feel hot and deteriorate over time. One of the worst things you can do for your sleep is to overheat, as it disrupts the sleep cycle and, therefore, impacts the overall quality of sleep.

Our beds are made with only the finest natural materials, for a calming, restful night’s sleep.

While comfort, natural materials and size are all fundamental to good sleep, the style of your bed is just as important. As individual as the right mattress tension, the design of your bed is a wonderful way to add personality to your bedroom. We offer infinite style options, including headboards, legs and an almost unlimited range of fabrics.

Although being spoilt for choice is rarely bad news, if you find yourself lost in countless ideas, our bed designs section is there to inspire you to make your dream bed a reality. Every Savoir bed is made to order; we hold no stock, so your design starts with you.

Just as we don’t believe in rushing when creating our beds, we also don’t believe the decision to choose the right one should be rushed either. After all, we spend a third of our lives in bed. And so, we strongly advise visiting one of our global showrooms, where you can lie down, try different mattresses and allow yourself to drift off on the bed that is perfect for you.

Our Sleep Specialists will be there to guide you every step of the way, because purchasing a new bed is an investment that will pay off every day of your life.
